Role: Associate Medical Writer (AMW)
An Associate Medical Writer (AMW) is a Scientific Services role requiring up to 1 year of experience within a medical communications agency. AMWs work closely with members of the Scientific Services team and report to their assigned line manager (a Scientific Director [SD] or above). Working with their mentors, AMWs are responsible for generating high-quality medical copy that meets client communication objectives, is delivered on time and within budget, and enhances the team’s scientific output.

Strategic input
* Understand the purpose and role of communications in the wider therapy area and commercial landscape.
* Understand how their activities and projects fit into the overall business objectives.
Project delivery
* Demonstrate strong scientific writing, editing, and data comprehension skills.
* Understand core scientific principles as they apply to medical communications projects.
* Develop content with guidance, including formatting, referencing, and annotation.
* Follow project processes, record-keeping, and client-specific requirements.
* Work to quality, budget, time, and accuracy standards.
* Learn from review feedback and apply improvements to future projects.
Customer engagement
* Communicate professionally in written, verbal, and face-to-face interactions with clients and medical experts.
* Participate in calls and emails, building relationships through project delivery.
* Travel or participate remotely in off-site meetings.
Team engagement
* Build good working relationships within and across departments.
* Manage time and priorities effectively while following processes.
* Understand team roles and responsibilities.
* Communicate proactively with team members.
Management and organization
* Develop content within budget, setting goals for efficiency.
* Keep managers informed of project status and issues.
* Follow company SOPs and policies.
* Minimize non-billable time.
Business development
* Understand the business development model.
* Participate in account planning and support proposals.
Other Responsibilities
* Own personal development plans.
* Seek opportunities for professional growth and training.
* Work on weekends or cover for staff absences as needed.
* Adhere to ethical practices, confidentiality, timesheet, and IT policies.
Qualifications
* Degree (2:1 or higher) in a biological or medically related subject; higher degree preferred.
* Promotion from Scientific Associate or equivalent experience (at least 1 year).
Skills
* Strong written and verbal communication, with attention to detail.
* Good research, comprehension, and organizational skills.
* Effective team working and computer literacy (MS Office).
* Willingness to learn new skills.
* Professional demeanor.
