Position Summary
This is an important, strategic role in the implementation of public relations programmes designed to create and maintain a favourable public image for the organisation. The Media Relations Executive should be a communications and public relations professional, capable of assisting in directing projects and project teams, and producing content of the highest calibre. The position may focus on any of several professional areas, including media and influencer relations, storytelling, press tours, PR agency relations and event support and staffing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Support in executing strategies to secure impactful media coverage for Royal Caribbean International, subject matter experts, products & services, and events, including pitching and engaging reporters, facilitating media interviews and support for executives
2. Build and maintain key professional relationships with significant media outlets and key journalists
3. Support in directing the activities of external agencies and internal teams as needed
4. Independently develop and execute appropriate strategies to address communications challenges
5. Oversee significant communications programmes, which may include promotions, press trips, press conferences, executive briefings
6. Handle incoming media inquiries and responses
7. Create innovative approaches to generating coverage in the media, draft press releases, talking points and statements
8. Track press coverage and write coverage reports analysing the output and success of media relations efforts.
9. Plan and implement group and individual press trips and liaise with appropriate personnel on requests
10. Stay abreast of latest industry developments, trends, and shifts in the travel industry
11. Partners with leadership on budget/expense control and reporting, department and/or brand related
12. Occasional travel
What we’d love you to have:
13. 5-7 years of PR agency, public relations, journalism or corporate communications experience
14. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred
15. Experience with media relations
16. Strong skills in pitching and comfortable reaching out to top tier media
17. Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel as appropriate (domestic & international)
18. Experience in travel industry and working for a global company preferred
19. Strong ability to interact with senior leaders and build effective relationships within the company, public, guests and media
20. Strong planning capabilities to identify and prioritise communication strategies and activities as well as to meet the deadlines required to support media and business needs
21. Strong writing skills – message creation experience a plus
22. Understanding of social media, influencers and emerging media with a wealth of creative ideas
23. Finger on the pulse - always up to date with trends, both inside and outside our industry
24. Outstanding English language proficiency. Proficiency in Spanish desirable
Work Environment:
The role may include travel to other offices, as well as domestic, international, and shipboard travel. A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard or offsite locations.
