Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
2. Transfusion MSc, Biomedical Science MSc with Transfusion, IBMS HSD in Transfusion Science or equivalent
Desirable criteria
3. Willing to pursue further qualifications
4. BBTS Specialist Certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
5. At least 3 years post HCPC Registration experience of working in a Haematology/Coagulation/Transfusion laboratory
6. To continue the learning process through academic or practical experience
7. Evidence of developing staff by teaching, training and delegation
Desirable criteria
8. Experience of working out of hours
9. Supervisory Experience
Technical Skills Competencies
Essential criteria
10. Possess highly developed technical skills and adept at all laboratory procedures
11. Ability to interpret diagnostic results and take appropriate action
12. Proven training ability
13. Ability to organise own workload and the day to day organisation and staffing of work section
14. Evaluate and appraise new methods and technologies
Desirable criteria
15. Previous experience of analyser and process validation and verification
16. HR & appraisal skills
17. Prepare presentations as part of laboratory training programme
Knowledge
Essential criteria
18. Thorough, specialist understanding of Transfusion Medicine
19. Understands Transfusion and its application in clinical practice and public health
20. Comprehensive understanding of quality control/quality assurance and laboratory safety procedures

21. Understanding of basic management practice
22. Understanding of the Good Practice Guidelines for blood establishments and hospital blood banks
