World‑Check One is a market‑leading screening and risk intelligence platform used by financial institutions, fintech, corporates, and regulators to identify and manage financial crime risks (e.g., sanctions, PEPs, AML, adverse media). The development team builds scalable, high‑availability services, intuitive workflows, and compliant data pipelines that power critical customer decisions worldwide.
Role Summary
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead product development teams, responsible for day‑to‑day people leadership, delivery, and technical execution of complex, business‑critical software. The role focuses on building high‑performing teams, delivering reliable outcomes, and ensuring engineering excellence within a regulated, data‑intensive product environment. You and your team will be key service owners for elements of the Product architecture, accountable for balancing feature development with architectural and operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
People Leadership
* Lead, coach, and develop multi‑functional engineering teams (typically 6–10 FTE, supplemented with vendors).
* Conduct regular 1:1s, performance evaluations, and career development planning.
* Develop a culture of accountability, psychological safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
* Support engineers’ growth in technical, delivery, and behavioural competencies.
Technical Leadership
* Provide technical guidance on system design, architecture changes, and implementation approaches.
* Ensure solutions align with platform standards, security requirements, and regulatory obligations.
* Promote modern engineering practices including clean code, automated testing, observability, and resilience.
* Partner with Architects and Principal Engineers on technical direction while ensuring team understanding and agreement.
* Support incident response and post‑incident learning, driving sustainable fixes.
Delivery & Execution
* Collaborate with Product and Delivery Management to break down roadmap initiatives into clear, achievable plans.
* Ensure effective agile ways of working (Scrum/Kanban), adapting practices as needed for real‑world delivery.
* Manage dependencies, risks, and trade‑offs, calling out appropriately to the wider management team for support.
* Balance feature delivery with technical health, operational stability, and cloud efficiency.
Collaboration
* Act as the engineering point of contact for your teams' scope.
* Work closely with Product, SRE/Operations, and Security teams.
* Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to interested parties and leadership.
* Lead and contribute to broader engineering initiatives and communities of practice across the engineering department.
Required Skills & Experience
Leadership & Delivery
* Validated experience leading and developing software and quality engineers in a delivery‑focused environment.
* Strong understanding of agile delivery, planning, and estimation techniques.
* Experience operating in complex, regulated, or data‑heavy domains is highly desirable.
* Ability to make pragmatic decisions and handle challenging priorities.
Technical Background
* Solid engineering background with deep experience in software development stacks (preferably Java, Vue) and CI/CD release pipelines.
* Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, and cloud‑based infrastructure (preferably AWS).
* Comfortable reviewing designs, challenging solutions, and supporting technical decision‑making.
* Experience working with non‑functional requirements such as security, performance, and resilience.
Communication & Behavioural Skills
* Clear, confident communicator with engineers and non‑technical partners.
* Able to influence without authority and navigate matrixed organisations.
* Calm and effective under pressure, particularly during incidents or delivery challenges.
* Demonstrates strong ownership, integrity, and customer focus.
