We are looking for an experienced electrical professional to help us deliver a reliable and safe electrical service across council homes and buildings in York. This is an important role within Building Services, supporting the electrical team and helping us maintain safe, well‑maintained homes for our tenants.
Based at Hazel Court, you will support the day‑to‑day running of the electrical service. This includes supervising electricians, reviewing electrical certificates, carrying out on‑site inspections, and resolving technical issues. You will also act as the Qualifying Supervisor for our NICEIC registration and make sure all electrical work meets the standards set out in BS7671.
You will work closely with the Electrical Team Leader, planners, surveyors, repairs teams, compliance colleagues, and other business areas across the council to ensure electrical works are completed to a high standard. You will also work with Building Services contractors, supporting them on site, monitoring progress, and helping maintain good communication to keep jobs on track.
The role includes co‑ordinating electrical testing programmes, checking the quality of completed work, and helping to plan electrical tasks across the city. You will also support apprentices as needed and contribute to developing skills within the team.
About You
You will be a qualified and experienced electrician with strong technical knowledge and confidence supervising others. You should be able to make decisions on site, communicate clearly with tenants and colleagues, and keep accurate records. Experience in electrical testing, inspection, and compliance work is essential. Experience in social housing is helpful but not required.
This is a frontline role based at Hazel Court, with work across York.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
