Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 nurse with the aptitude and commitment to develop a career in our Specialist Critical Care Unit. You must have recent experience in adult acute care in a hospital setting and/or previous experience in an adult critical care environment.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a team to provide a safe, effective, and efficient care environment for patients, relatives, and carers. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care under indirect supervision from senior staff. We support your learning through the CC3N STEP 1 foundation programme for Critical Care.
Our unit is a 5-bedded Critical Care Unit caring for various specialties, including reconstructive plastic surgery, head & neck cancer surgery, maxillofacial trauma, and major burn patients requiring HDU/ITU level care.
If you are eager to gain new skills and knowledge in a specialist area, we offer excellent development opportunities within a multidisciplinary team. We promote skill enhancement through simulation training, educational development days, and CCU competencies.
Rotation to night duties is a requirement of the role.

Job description
Responsibilities
* Caring for 1 x level 3 patient or 2 x level 2 patients
* Performing ABCDE assessments
* Caring for ventilated patients
* Managing patients with altered airways
* Post-operative care including flap monitoring, drain and fluid management, physiological observations, and complication management
* Managing major burn patients
* Wound care and nutrition management
* Administering medications
* Completing transfer courses and transferring patients
* Competent in ELS
* Analyzing blood gases
* Using cardiac monitoring and Lidco
* Managing CVC and arterial lines
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: Current NMC Registration
* Desirable: ILS/ALS, ERAM/ALERT, intensive care pathway course/step 3 competencies, mentorship qualification/supporting learners
Skills
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* IT literate
* Initiative, prioritization, flexibility
* Desirable: Leadership skills
Experience
* Essential: Basic wound management, post-registration acute care experience, MDT working
* Desirable: Critical care experience, complex wound management
