Join Our Team as a Modern Apprentice with Active Schools Dundee! Leisure & Culture Dundee, Active Schools in partnership with Enable Works and sport Scotland invites applications for our Modern Apprenticeship post. Funding for this post is only available for young people with a recognised disability. This Modern Apprenticeship provides paid employment for a young person aged 16–24, who is a resident of Dundee, has a disability, and is interested in pursuing a career in sports. A disability could be a physical, learning or sensory impairment, which may also include (this list is not exhaustive): ADHD Dyslexia/Dyscalculia Neurodivergent Autism Dyspraxia Visual/Hearing impairment Training will be provided on-the-job within the Active Schools Team. The successful candidate will be expected to follow health and safety steps and attend all training. The role combines on-the-job learning, with support, leading to a nationally and industry recognised qualification. The successful applicant will be employed on a fixed term 18-month contract, working 25 hours per week, and will work towards achieving the SCQF Level 6 Sport Coaching qualification. Responsibilities
The Modern Apprentice will assist the Active Schools Co-ordinator to provide high quality sports and physical activity opportunities for children and young people across a range of schools. Also Support the Active Schools team by assisting with coaching sessions, leadership programmes, admin tasks, event delivery, and promoting active participation in sport. During the 18-month apprenticeship, they will undertake an SCQF Level 6 qualification in Sports Coaching as well as other generic sports/physical activity related awards and qualifications.
The Individual
Applicants should hold National 4 or 5 qualifications (or equivalent) and demonstrate a strong interest in working within a sporting environment. They must be willing and able to complete an SCQF Level 6 Sports Coaching qualification within the timeframe provided. Relevant experience— whether through education, volunteering, or part-time work—is highly valued, along with effective communication skills for engaging with both children and adults. Candidates should be confident using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint. The role requires good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines with support, and strong written and verbal communication. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility is essential, as some evening and weekend work will be required, along with a positive, proactive attitude and strong interpersonal skills. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Leisure & Culture Dundee.
