Overview
NHS Talking Therapies in Hertfordshire are seeking a motivated and creative Assistant Psychologist (AP) to join our established service and contribute to the delivery of psychological therapies in a primary care setting with a focus on Long Term Health conditions (LTC). The service is dynamic and supportive, with APPTS accreditation for our AP role. The AP will work under supervision to provide psychological assessment and treatment to service users with depression and anxiety in the context of LTC, and will contribute to service development through audits, data collection, research and innovation projects. The role supports staff in the Primary Care Service by providing psychological assessment and interventions under supervision, assisting with audits and data collection, and developing research and innovation projects. Travel to other bases or additional office days may be required depending on service need or demand.
Responsibilities
* Provide psychological assessment and interventions under supervision of a qualified Psychologist.
* Support service development through audits, data collection, and involvement in research and innovation projects.
* Work independently according to a plan agreed with the Long-Term Conditions Deputy Clinical Lead within HPFT policies and procedures.
* Attend your office base as required (minimum two days per week) and travel to other bases if needed.
Qualifications
* Honours degree (or higher) in Psychology.
* Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
* Eligible for Graduate Basis for Registration with the BPS. This role is open to qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good organisational skills, ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Excellent data analysis skills and competency in Excel and SPSS; experience with data analysis and audit within service improvement is desirable.
* Desirable criteria: further postgraduate training in relevant areas of psychology, mental health practice or research design and analysis; experience working with people with mental health problems; understanding of relevant professional standards and practice; experience of working in primary care; ability to communicate sensitive information; ability to apply psychological knowledge to a primary care context; ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team; empathic and respectful engagement with service users; team working; interest in working with people with mental health problems; the ability to manage sensitive conversations and high-emotive settings; ability to assess common mental health problems; understanding of the importance of evidence-based psychological interventions in primary care; willingness to drive (car-driver).
* Desirable criteria continued: ability to work under pressure and manage own workload; self-reflection; ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with service users and carers; fluency in languages other than English.
