The role of Positive Behaviour Support Trainee
You will undertake a training programme within the Therapy team and conduct the Therapy Assistant role three days per week. This aim is to support with the implementation of communication, occupational therapy, and sensory programmes devised by Therapists for both groups and individuals, in both education and residential settings to support generalisation of skills.
For two days a week you will be based in the PBS team and undergo a training programme to gain further knowledge and skills within this area. Both roles will develop your and understanding of supporting and building relationships with autistic young people with complex needs, and the holistic approach at Prior’s Court.

Qualifications & experience
Essential requirements –
1. Experience working with young people in a special needs environment
2. Level 3 or above qualification in relevant subject
3. English skills equal to Level 2A, as set out by the British Council in order to access, engage with and complete the any BILD qualifications
4. Knowledge of the role of therapy within education and residential support
5. Knowledge of Autism
6. Working knowledge and understanding of safeguarding
7. Proven ability to communicate and deliver information on both an individual and group basis
8. Able to demonstrate calm and resilient qualities when working under pressure
9. Level 3 or above qualification in relevant subject OR Degree in Psychology (2:1) or above which confers eligibility for graduate basis for registration (GBR) with the British Psychological Society
Responsibilities –
10. Follow programme for completion of training and work-based experience
11. Implement learning under the direction of line-manager/supervisor
12. Follow and deliver planning as agreed with therapists for groups and individual young people. This includes case notes and tracking progress
13. Adapt plans as relevant for groups of young people to provide interventions, as directed by therapists, using evidence-based therapy approaches individualised to meet YP’s needs
14. Independently plan and organise session timetables through liaising with education and residential staff, with responsibility for room bookings and session preparation/clear down
15. Meet regularly with therapists to feedback and work collaboratively to improve outcomes. Including, participating in regular reviews of the therapy provision and support the planning and implementation of improvement projects
16. Record outcomes of learning activities, supporting the therapy team to collect evidence of therapy impact on young person outcomes – including assessment data, case studies and feedback from staff, parents/carers
17. Use and help others to use schedules, visual structure, and communication systems to help young people understand and carry out tasks/activities successfully
18. Role model best practice and provide coaching/mentoring to a range of autism professionals
19. Contribute to the planning and preparing of resources, as directed by the therapist, including resources and visuals required as part of the universal provision
20. Understand and support others to understand and implement young people’s This Is Me plans for areas of learning
