Are you passionate about great homes, high standards, and making a real difference for customers? Do you thrive when you're out on site, solving problems, and ensuring that work is completed safely, professionally, and to the highest quality? If so, we’d love to welcome you to our team as a Building Repairs Surveyor.
At Moat, we’re committed to creating safe, comfortable homes and delivering brilliant customer experiences. You’ll play a key role in supporting our Repairs Partnering team and our Allocations team — helping us keep our homes well‑maintained, compliant, and ready for the future.
What you’ll be doing:
In this varied and hands‑on role, you’ll be at the heart of our property maintenance and repairs service. Your day‑to‑day will include:
* Carrying out property inspections – customer dissatisfaction reports, damp & mould, disrepair cases, and stock condition surveys.
* Providing expert technical advice, diagnosing building defects and supporting Moat colleagues and customers.
* Overseeing contractor performance, auditing work, checking compliance, reviewing invoices, and ensuring repairs are completed to specification, on time and on budget.
* Keeping accurate digital records, updating our asset management systems, and producing clear, insightful reports.
* Inspecting fire remedial works and new‑build defects to ensure safety and quality standards are met.
* Providing support to wider areas outside of Essex as and when required.
* Working closely with our teams, resolving customer enquiries and supporting colleagues with your professional expertise.
* Providing out‑of‑hours telephone cover on a rota basis.
* Being a proactive, positive force within the team — helping us deliver a safe, reliable, customer‑focused repairs service.
What you’ll bring:
We’re looking for someone who combines technical skill with great communication and a can‑do attitude. You’ll ideally have:
* A strong understanding of building pathology, construction techniques, stock condition surveys, FRA’s (fire risk assessments) and asbestos reinspection processes.
* A good knowledge of responsive repairs, voids, major works, landlord & tenant legislation and relevant housing legislation.
* Experience working with customers and in occupied buildings.
* Confidence in reviewing contractor work, managing invoices, and ensuring compliance.
* Working knowledge of building regulations (especially Parts A, L, M and P).
* Familiarity with party wall regulations, disrepair protocol, and asset management principles.
* Strong IT skills – including Excel and Word.
* A full driving licence.
