Job Title: Adult Skills Tutor
Location: Brighton
Salary: £27,000 per annum
Contract Type: Fixed-term to 31st July 2026
(37.5 hours per week) Annual Leave: 25 days + 8 bank holidays (pro-rata)
Role Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and motivated Adult Skills Tutor to deliver a range of short, accredited training courses for adult learners in Brighton and Hove. This role is ideal for a passionate educator with experience in adult learning, looking to support individuals into further education, training or employment.
You will be delivering classroom-based courses ranging from 1 to 12 days in duration across a diverse curriculum that may include:
· Support Work in Schools and Colleges
· Health & Safety with CSCS Card
· Understanding Autism
· Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties
· Customer Service
· Safeguarding and Prevent
· Food Safety
All teaching will be delivered face-to-face from our Brighton centre.
Key Responsibilities:
· Deliver classroom-based accredited training across a range of adult education courses.
· Support learners through the full learning journey, from enrolment to progression.
· Conduct effective initial assessments and develop tailored learner action plans.
· Maintain and update individual learning plans and progress reviews.
· Provide continuous advice, guidance and pastoral support.
· Ensure high standards of teaching and learning are consistently maintained.
· Assess and mark learner work accurately and timely.
· Contribute to curriculum planning and resource development.
· Participate in regular team meetings and CPD activities.
· Manage a caseload of learners effectively and support progression opportunities.
· Promote and embed safeguarding, equality and safe working practices at all times.
Essential/Desirable Criteria:
Essential:
· PGCE or a recognised teaching qualification at Level 3 or above.
· Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics.
· Experience delivering adult education/training programmes.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and telephone).
· Well-developed organisational and time-management skills.
· ICT proficient and confident using digital learning tools.
· Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
· Understanding of the Further Education sector and National Occupational Standards.
· Committed to equality, diversity, safeguarding and Prevent.
· Willingness to undertake appropriate CPD and adapt to new methods of delivery.
Desirable:
· Background in adult employability training or working with diverse learner groups.
· Knowledge of curriculum planning and experience supporting learner progression.
