We're looking for an experienced and commercially aware Principal Technical Consultant to join our dynamic Consultancy Division. This is a senior-level role offering the opportunity to work on complex, high-value projects while helping to shape technical standards and mentoring others in a supportive and collaborative environment.
You'll be a key technical lead-guiding projects, reviewing work, contributing to internal training and documentation, and ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across the team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide senior technical input across a wide range of environmental consultancy projects, including land contamination risk assessment, site investigation, and remediation.
* Review, authorise, and guide the preparation of project reports, including Desk Studies, Detailed Risk Assessments, and Verification Reports.
* Oversee technical quality across the division-supporting consistency, defensibility, and customer satisfaction.
* Develop and maintain in-house technical procedures, templates, and guidance documents in line with evolving industry standards.
* Support technical training delivery and knowledge sharing within the team.
* Assist with audits and quality assurance reviews, offering constructive feedback and ensuring continuous improvement.
* Provide input on tenders and high-value proposals, helping to identify and realise new business opportunities.
* Ensure a strong customer focus is maintained throughout all activities.
What You'll Bring:
* A degree in geoscience, environmental science, geography, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 10 years' experience in environmental consultancy, ideally with technical expertise in risk assessment and/or specialist remediation techniques.
* Working towards or already holding relevant professional qualifications (e.g. Chartership).
* Deep understanding of applicable legislation and standards, including BS5930, BS10175, BS21365 and LCRM.
* Strong analytical and IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving, a strong commercial mindset, and a collaborative working style.
Additional Info:
* Occasional travel, including overnight stays, may be required to support clients on-site or at group offices.
* While the role is part-time, some flexibility may be needed to meet project or client deadlines.
