Commercial Director - Design & Build in Water and Environment At Jacobs, we don't just deliver infrastructure, we help shape the future of the water sector. With unprecedented investment underway and a strong pipeline of multi-year frameworks and major project wins across the UK, Ireland, and internationally, our Water team is growing rapidly. We now have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Director, reporting to the Head of Design and Build for Water and Environment, to support our growth in design and build delivery. This is a pivotal and dynamic role where you'll have the opportunity to shape a growing area of our business and contribute directly to the next chapter of our success. You will play an influential role in how we develop our commercial offering across sales, growth, and delivery; how we partner with contractors; and how we deliver exceptional outcomes across the full project lifecycle. Aligned with Jacobs' Hybrid Working Policy, this role operates on a hybrid basis, combining remote working with attendance at Jacobs or client offices as needed. The position also requires flexibility to travel across the UK and Ireland to support project and client delivery. You will bring a strong track record and deep understanding of market trends, industry norms, and the commercial and contractual requirements associated with major Design and Build contracts in the water sector. You will lead all contractual and commercial elements of our most critical and complex bid opportunities, working alongside our legal team as appropriate, engaging directly with strategic clients, and taking responsibility for negotiations. During delivery, you will provide commercial leadership across key programmes and strategic projects, ensuring excellence from inception to completion. A core part of your role will involve developing and mentoring a team of commercial specialists, as well as providing expert advice, oversight, and assurance at every stage of the contract lifecycle. You will also take ownership of dispute resolution and claims management where required. You will ideally bring chartership from a recognised professional body such as ICE, RICS, or MCIOB, together with over fifteen years of experience-preferably within the water sector. You should have a proven record of leading the commercial management of large-scale infrastructure projects and programmes, particularly within a Design and Build environment. NEC3 or NEC4 experience is a minimum requirement, and success in this role will rely on your ability to integrate multidisciplinary engineering and construction inputs while applying strong contractual expertise. You will be comfortable operating autonomously across a diverse and complex portfolio of projects, bringing authority, sound judgement, and commercial clarity to every situation. Exceptional communication skills are essential, as you will routinely translate complex commercial matters for a wide range of stakeholders with varied technical backgrounds. This is a rare chance to join a growing part of our business, one where you will have genuine influence and the opportunity to build and shape an expanding capability. If you are driven, commercially astute, and passionate about shaping the future of water sector delivery, we would love to hear from you. WHY JACOBS? At Jacobs, you'll find more than just a job.
