About the Role
As a Credit Controller, you will be responsible for managing outstanding debts, reviewing credit requests, and overseeing the credit status of both new and existing customers. You will also support the finance team with administrative tasks and ensure accurate record‑keeping across all credit control activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct credit checks for new and existing accounts.
* Set up new customer accounts and maintain accurate records.
* Carry out credit control activities via phone and email.
* Send monthly statements and follow up on outstanding payments.
* Resolve account queries by liaising with relevant internal teams.
* Record all communications in the internal systems.
* Maintain accurate action logs and follow-up schedules (emails, calls, promises to pay, debt letters).
* Escalate any potential problem accounts to the Line Manager promptly.
* Notify sales teams before placing an account on hold, where appropriate.
* Review account credit limits and recommend changes when required.
* Work towards maintaining debtor days at under 60.
* Provide general administrative support to the finance team.
* Undertake additional tasks as required by management.
Experience & Skills Required
* Previous experience in a Credit Control role is essential.
* Experience in logistics or transport (advantageous but not required).
* Proficient with email, spreadsheets, and database systems.
* Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
* Strong customer service and communication skills (written and verbal).
* Ability to influence and negotiate confidently.
* High attention to detail and accuracy.
* Able to work to deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
* Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Comfortable explaining financial matters clearly.
