Position Summary:
Cencora seeks an attorney with significant experience in data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging AI issues to provide strategic legal advice on data risk management and innovation. This role reports to the Assistant General Counsel - Data Governance, Privacy, and Cybersecurity and collaborates across legal, business, and functional teams.
The role requires expertise in US, Canada, and LA privacy, cybersecurity, and AI laws, regulations, and guidance. Routine analysis and legal advice on HIPAA and healthcare privacy laws are also expected.
The candidate should have strong analytical skills and deliver pragmatic, business-oriented legal services in a fast-paced tech environment. Prioritization and project management skills are essential, along with strategic insights for compliance and governance in emerging data and tech law areas.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Advise on legal, regulatory, and policy issues in data privacy, protection (including HIPAA, state and Canadian laws), cybersecurity (e.g., CMMC, NIST, ISO 27001, HITRUST), and AI (e.g., NIST RMF, state and local AI laws).
* Draft, review, negotiate contracts related to healthcare, privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and data protection; create templates and playbooks for efficient contract management.
* Assess and mitigate harms from privacy and cybersecurity incidents through communication, escalation, and stakeholder partnership.
* Review new technology proposals involving privacy, cyber, and AI risks; provide pragmatic, privacy-by-design solutions.
* Demonstrate calm decision-making and communication during incidents or high-risk proposals requiring escalation.
* Manage multiple projects effectively, ensuring high-value and high-risk needs are addressed efficiently.
Experience and Education Requirements
5-7 years of legal experience focusing on privacy, data governance, and cybersecurity. In-house and cross-functional experience in multinational companies preferred. Healthcare legal experience is a plus.
Graduate of an accredited law school, admitted to and in good standing with a US state bar.
This position is akin to a senior associate in a law firm, capable of sophisticated counseling with limited supervision.
Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
* Knowledge of privacy, cybersecurity, AI laws across NA and LA, including healthcare laws like HIPAA.
* Ability to communicate themes across jurisdictions for risk management in multi-country launches or investments.
* Experience managing outside counsel and liaising with experts.
* Ability to understand business models and tech trends, aligning legal requirements with strategic investments.
* Experience advising senior management with clear risk analysis and mitigation strategies.
* Strong soft skills for incident management and risk escalation.
* Experience working with compliance teams and defining operational targets.
* Privacy, AI, or security certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CISSP) are preferred.
* Excellent negotiation, prioritization, multitasking, and client management skills.

Salary Range*
$121,000 - 186,230
*This range is a national average; actual may vary by location, with up to 10% lower or 12% higher depending on the state.
