Course number and title: PPG2015H-S – Topics in Public Policy Economics

Course description: The course will evaluate the relative merits of government intervention versus non-intervention in these areas, and also the potential different interventions available. Expected consequences of interventions, risks and unintended consequences will also be explored. Topics will include (but are not limited to) government budgets, environment and climate change, labour markets, labour force skills, industrial policies, income distribution, housing and the new challenges and opportunities in the economy. Specific examples will be drawn from Canadian government policy developments and Budgets during the session.

Class schedule: Thursdays 10am-1pm

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 - April 30, 2026

Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $9,820.70; Sessional Lecturer I, Long Term - $10,510.04; Sessional Lecturer II - $10,510.04; Sessional Lecturer II (Long Term) - $10,760.28; Sessional Lecturer III - $10,760.28; Sessional Lecturers III (Long Term) - $11,030.36

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications: Masters in economics required, with specialization in finance. Extensive and senior professional policy practitioner experience required, preferably in the public sector.

Preferred qualifications: Completed PhD preferred, teaching experience at the graduate level preferred.

Description of duties: Teaching at the graduate level, developing the syllabus, teaching three-hour classes, providing weekly office hours for academic counseling of students, preparing and delivering course material, preparing and delivering assignments and tests, supervising TA(s), marking student work and submitting grades.
