We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Geotechnical Engineer who is an ambitious team player to join our Geotechnical Engineering team in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
About The Team
The Geotechnical Engineering team provides a wide range of geotechnical design services across all project stages, including feasibility studies, ground investigations, geotechnical interpretation, preliminary and detailed design, and construction supervision for geotechnical works. As part of the growing geotechnical team, you will contribute to and support strategic growth within the renewables infrastructure market across Scotland and support the multi-disciplinary Northern Ireland business within RPS.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Leading geotechnical input to projects, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and schedule, with a high degree of independence.
2. Leading project delivery, work-winning, and maintaining high client satisfaction.
3. Leading client meetings, explaining decisions, and proposing alternative ideas.
4. Creating professional, technically proficient reports and communicating effectively with specialists and clients.
5. Managing and executing project work with strong financial oversight.
6. Managing team resources and project allocation.
7. Mentoring and developing junior staff.
8. Supporting all facets of project delivery, including client communication, coordination, quality control, and management of specialists.
9. Overseeing site-based work, including ground investigations, construction activities, site inspections, and supervision.
Who We’re Looking For
1. Experience in leading geotechnical projects with a solid understanding of fundamental principles.
2. Strong technical knowledge in geotechnical engineering.
3. Experience in consultancy, with commercial insight and established client and contractor relationships.
4. Proven track record in managing geotechnical projects and preparing technical reports.
5. Ability to understand client needs and influence contract specifications.
6. Excellent report writing and client communication skills.
7. Experience in geotechnical desk studies, ground investigations, and design reports in compliance with Eurocode 7.
8. Familiarity with Eurocode 7, UK design codes, and ground investigation and construction contracts.
9. Proficiency in geotechnical software for designing foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, etc.
10. Ability to critically evaluate drawings, calculations, and reports.
11. Full UK driving license and willingness to travel within the UK & Ireland.
Qualifications
1. BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc/MSc in Engineering Geology or Earth Science with an Engineering Masters.
2. Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, Geological Society) with chartered status.
