Your role as a Gardener/Groundworker
Based at University Park this role will undertake all practical aspects of landscape maintenance including planting a wide range of shrubs, perennials, young plants and seedlings. You will also produce glass house material for graduations ceremonies and other University events including open days. You will work with the team to maintain the upkeep of ornamental gardens and bedding displays keeping all areas of work clean and tidy while promoting a welcoming campus with a strong emphasis on the environment and health and safety. Other duties will include the preparation, care and maintenance of amenity landscaped areas and the operation of a wide range of horticultural and grounds maintenance machinery.
Candidates should be qualified to NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in amenity horticulture, or a related discipline or have substantial relevant experience, have knowledge of a range of trees, shrubs and perennials and preferably hold an NPTC – PA1 and PA6A pesticide application certificate. Candidates must also have experience in the use of compact and agricultural tractors and trailers including associated attachments. Due to the frequency with which the post holder will drive vehicles involved in grounds maintenance operations and transport materials between university sites, candidates must hold a full, current driving license.

Hours of Work
There are 2 positions available for this post. These positions are offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time, hours per week) to be worked 5 days out of 7 to be arranged (mainly Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 3.30pm) with flexibility to work weekends as required. Job share arrangements may be considered.
These positions are eligible to an additional 20% pay allowance for any hours worked on the weekend.
