Location and work type
Location: We currently have vacancies for Network Operation Technicians within our Pollutions team to join our Customer Field Services department to cover the Bradford area in West Yorkshire. You will need to be approximately 30 to 40 minutes away from our Esholt wastewater site where you will be part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Work type: The permanent opportunities are working 37-hour patterns Monday to Friday and will include standby, which may include late, early and weekend work.

Role: Where you fit in
As our Network Operation Technician, you will deliver a “first time fix” and same-day solution to customer and environmental problems and deliver the asset plan for network maintenance to eliminate escapes. You will be a field-based technician within a geographical team, ensuring a first-time fix and high-quality follow-on work in line with our standards and specifications.
You will ensure the correct site setup and POWRA are completed prior to and during jobs to identify risks and undertake corrective/preventive actions to stay safe at all times.
To safely proactively and reactively maintain the sewerage network to promote and implement solutions which resolve and/or prevent a sewage escape (flooding and pollution) from occurring, and to ensure no repeats take place.
You will work with Yorkshire Water teams and contracted partners on site to resolve and manage operational issues on the sewer network.
You may operate different vehicle types depending on availability and the type of work attending. You will undertake thorough investigations on our sewerage system to resolve issues and prevent repeat customer contacts and support other operational teams with investigations into sewer asset problems. You will need to utilise IT systems to collate information and relay feedback, and you will be required to collate data for evidence capturing including photos, plans and reporting on any escapes or issues from the sewer network. You may be required to maintain and install Customer Sewer Alarms on the network and work with third-party providers where support is required.
You will ensure Health and Safety working practices are always complied with. You will demonstrate financial awareness and provide technical support and first-line response to customer contacts to ensure a fix-first-time resolution and promote cost-effective solutions.
What skills & qualifications you will need
* It is essential that you have a practical mindset, enjoy working outdoors in all weathers and are comfortable taking a hands-on approach to work tasks.
* Previous experience in a customer service-related role with face-to-face communication with customers is essential.
* The ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external working relationships, influence outcomes and make decisions.
* Prepared to question unsafe working practices and report these to management.
* Excellent communication skills to capture, evidence and feedback information; ability to influence outcomes and meet challenging targets.
* Ability to diagnose faults and determine root causes; good problem-solving skills and basic IT skills to use internal systems.
* Willingness to work a variety of rotas and participate in an out-of-hours standby rota after training.
* Ability to work within confined spaces and pass medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and spirometry tests.
* Full valid driving licence (no more than 6 points).
Desirable/Additional benefits
