Job Description
Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Technical Author in the UK BAT team you can. Large slaughterhouses and animal‑by‑products installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. You’ll be responsible for drafting BAT conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups and presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide, environmental standard for industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft BAT conclusions.
* Collaborate with Technical Working Groups.
* Present final documents for publication.
* Ensure technical documents meet required standards.
* Manage projects to deliver on time.
* Travel and overnight stays may be required.
Required Experience & Skills
You will have at least 5 years working experience, and a solid understanding of environmental regulation in the slaughterhouse industry.
* Specialist knowledge of the slaughterhouse and animal‑by‑products sector.
* Understanding of process engineering, environmental issues, and UK legislation and policy.
* Ability to analyse technical arguments and data.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Project management skills and a drive to complete tasks.
* Experience with complex industrial data analysis.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships.
* Planning, prioritising and organising tasks.
* Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Qualifications
* 5+ years experience in environmental regulation within the slaughterhouse sector.
* Knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation (IED, Environmental Permitting Regulations).
