Your new company
Hays are currently recruiting for a global construction company in South Lanarkshire, who are looking for a Finance Assistant to join their team on a temporary basis for 9 months. The role is a 37.5-hour working week, with flexible start and finish times. A hybrid working arrangement of 2 days at home a week is available, however, only once training and onboarding has been completed.
Your new role
On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for;
* Manage the full purchase ledger and expenses process, ensuring efficient approvals, controls, and payment runs.
* Liaise with suppliers, resolve queries, and perform supplier statement reconciliations.
* Conduct weekly bank reconciliations across multiple entities and manage company credit cards.
* Process payroll journals, month-end accruals, and prepayments.
* Perform balance sheet reconciliations and assist with intercompany recharges.
* Support month-end and year-end closing, including audit preparation.
* Assist with VAT returns (domestic and international) and sales ledger invoicing when required.
* Contribute to financial control policy implementation and compliance.
* Support system integrations, ERP processes, and other ad hoc financial tasks.
What you'll need to succeed
This role requires keen attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all processes. You will have proven experience in purchase ledger management, with the ability to handle the process independently. A solid understanding of debtors and creditors, and experience working with them is required for this role. You will have excellent communication skills in order to work efficiently within the team and communicate effectively with internal and external contacts. The successful candidate will ideally have experience using Xero or a similar integrated package.
