The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to step into a Lead Buyer role within the construction and civil engineering sector. You'll be responsible for driving procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring best value for materials, services, and subcontract packages across live projects.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
* Secure best value from suppliers of materials, services, and consumables to support project teams.
* Assist in developing project-specific procurement strategies.
* Plan, place, and track orders for materials and services, monitoring cost, quality, and delivery performance.
* Report on procurement progress against project plans.
* Ensure suppliers meet required health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
* Issue subcontract, material, and service enquiries during bid phases.
* Manage enquiry schedules throughout tender processes.
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of overarching procurement strategies and business plans.
* Build and manage supplier relationships to support both current and future business needs.
* Conduct site visits to stay informed on project progress and requirements.
* Keep up-to-date with industry standards (e.g., CIPS) and supply chain best practices.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
* Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Senior Buyer.
* Hands-on procurement lead experience on an active construction or civil engineering project/site.
* Practical understanding of site processes.
* Ability to manage supplier relationships and large procurement packages.
* Experience handling multiple projects simultaneously.
* Technical ability to read drawings and understand construction needs.
* Strong communication and coordination skills within procurement teams.
* Commercial awareness of different forms of contracts (NEC3 and NEC4).
* HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or Business and Supply Management (essential).
* Ideally holds a CIPS Level 4 Diploma (desirable)
