About the role
We are looking for highly motivated occupational therapists to join the Band 5 rotational scheme permanently across a wide range of clinical areas including elective/trauma orthopaedics, renal medicine, oncology, STAT (A&E), general medicine, surgical and vascular services, older people services, stroke, critical care, hand therapy, bedded rehabilitation unit, community falls team and intermediate care services.
Responsibilities
1. Participate in designated rotations and all areas of the rotation, including 7‑day services.
2. Assess, treat, implement, and document occupational therapy interventions within nominated specialities.
3. Develop positive and collaborative working relationships across health and social care.
4. Maintain and develop own continuing professional development and continuous learning.
Clinical responsibilities
1. Provide individual client‑centred assessments in hospital and home environments within rotational specialities.
2. Address occupational performance skills, patterns, contexts, and activity demands with patients and carers using a theoretical model of practice.
3. Analyse and synthesize findings to develop individual goal and task‑oriented treatment plans.
4. Carry out physical and functional assessments and treatments using dexterity, coordination, manual and sensory skills to facilitate functional independence.
5. Demonstrate clinical reasoning and problem‑solving techniques in reviews to determine agreed outcomes.
6. Accurately record all professional judgments and decisions in accordance with Occupational Therapy policies.
7. Maintain high standards of patient care in line with the Occupational Therapy Code of Conduct and Service Standards, ensuring confidentiality.
8. Use effective interpersonal skills to encourage patients and carers’ active participation.
9. Act as an advocate for patients and carers, adopting a client‑centred approach to support meaningful participation in life roles.
Professional development / quality improvement responsibilities
1. Maintain professional status and keep knowledge up to date via continuous professional development and post‑registration education programmes.
2. Use supervision and performance development plans to promote personal effectiveness and clinical expertise.
3. Identify personal competency limitations and seek appropriate guidance.
4. Share acquired knowledge and skills with colleagues to build professional relationships.
5. Contribute to quality monitoring and audit programmes through multi‑professional and service‑led initiatives.
