In our quest to deliver patient‑focused quality care we are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Neurodiversity Complex Case Lead to join our forward‑thinking, friendly and expanding Health & Justice team at HMP Send.
This post can also be offered as a band 6‑7 developmental post, a fixed‑term contract expected to progress within 12–18 months, depending on individual readiness and development progress. By joining our Prisons Health Care Team you will look after the healthcare needs of our patients residing in secure environments, and you will have a real impact on promoting health and well‑being.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead in the identification, assessment and support of people with Neurodevelopmental Disorders, including Autism, ADHD, Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities.
* Provide and support others in offering adapted psychosocial interventions for people whose communication, thinking style & coping strategies are impacted by the presence of an ND.
* Hold a complex caseload of people identified to have needs associated with ND and require reasonable adjustments to be made to their healthcare.
* Keep up to date with research, policy & legislation relevant to ND.
* Offer expert consultancy to the Mental Health Team and contribute to person‑centred pathways & interventions within the MDT.
* Develop person‑centred Care Plans which identify strengths & needs in collaboration with individuals.
* Supported by your clinical lead to improve the outcomes of people with ND at HMP Send, delivering against the national specifications for primary & mental healthcare for people with ND.
* Deputise in the absence of line manager when required & play an active part in the Healthcare Management Team.
* Recognise that there is need for flexibility, working outside of normal working hours if required, including weekends.
* Maintain own skills & knowledge to a high standard & ensure that this is reflected within the team.

Quality of Care & Management Standards
Promote the health and well‑being of patients and maintain a safe, caring, and therapeutic environment based on an individualised approach. Work with the Service Manager to provide an environment that promotes training and development among the workforce. Maintain a high standard of care to patients and ensure reasonable adjustments are made to meet the needs of people with ADHD, ASD and IDD, including communication disorders. Undertake work needed to support research and develop care pathways specific to people with a diagnosis of Neurodevelopmental Disorder (ASD, ADHD and IDD). Support work to develop and use appropriate screening tools for Neurodevelopmental Disorder as part of an integrated care pathway. Develop knowledge and skills in the treatment of patients with Neurodevelopmental Disorders (ASD, ADHD and IDD). Deliver a range of adapted psychosocial and psychoeducation sessions for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders and help others adapt similar programmes. Develop networks and contacts to provide additional advice and research as resources for colleagues to support professional and service development. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the key elements of relevant Mental Health legislation. Take responsibility for a caseload of clients, maintaining clinical skills. Demonstrate a positive attitude to mental health and neurodiversity, attending to patients with respect and dignity and have the ability to challenge staff where the standard falls below expectations. Ensure that professional boundaries are always adhered to. Keep up to date with issues and developments in nursing, the prison service and the wider NHS. Keep abreast of new policies, guidance and best practice guidelines. Provide advice and guidance to junior staff and those with no ND experience. Ensure ongoing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care is in line with current best practice. Actively participate in the Healthcare Care Quality Meetings and other appropriate meetings as agreed. Maintain up to date accurate clinical records both written and electronic. Maintain accurate, timely paper and electronic records. Ensure they are kept safely in accordance with CNWL policies, including the Data Protection Act (1998) and the CNWL Confidentiality Policy.
Management of Resources
Work within agreed levels of resources, both human and financial, to support the clinical environment. Efficiently co‑ordinate all services delivered to the patient groups within prison. Be a leading member of the multi‑disciplinary team, contributing in all its forums, attending and running meetings and case conferences for patients. Lead by example, motivating and empowering others and promoting positive attitudes, mutual understanding and collaboration between all services involved in the care process. Ensure the provision of a stimulating learning environment for other staff and students within the team. Participate in managerial supervision and the appraisal process. Identify skills currently held by all staff and co‑ordinate appropriate training necessary to improve and enhance patient care in accordance with trust policy. Contribute to the delivery of Neurodevelopmental Disorder training for all prison staff.
