Job Summary
The PHNA will work under the direction of Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN) and Registered Nurses (RN), assisting them in promoting the health and development of school-aged children resident or attending schools in the area.
This includes participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of care programs to meet the specific needs of children and their families; working in various settings with individuals, groups, and the wider community.
They will connect children and families to local resources that promote early intervention and build resilience. The post involves delivering elements of the Healthy Child Programme, including the National Child Measurement Programme and health promotion activities as delegated by SCPHN.
The PHNA will collaborate with SCPHN and other service providers to identify children and families needing support early on to prevent unnecessary hospital visits and to achieve positive outcomes.

Main duties of the job
1. Provide clinical support, health promotion activities, and one-on-one or group work in settings such as homes, schools, health centres, family hubs, and youth centres.
2. Assist SCPHN in delivering group and individual health promotion sessions, including assemblies and liaising with school staff.
3. Offer evidence-based advice to children and young people on issues like continence, healthy eating, oral health, immunisations, and emotional well-being, following needs assessments.
4. Support delivery of the National Childhood Measurement Programme and vision screening, including documentation.
5. Understand and report child protection concerns related to safeguarding vulnerable children and young people.
