Royal Mail is currently seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead operations at our Guildford site, with responsibility for also overseeing our Hounslow workshop. As the Workshop Manager you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of cultural change and will be accountable for the performance of your Workshop(s) in your area. You will deliver performance against all key Maintenance scorecard indicators – Safety, Legal, Cost, People and Stakeholder performance measures – and support Royal Mail’s journey toward net zero with an all‑electric delivery fleet by 2035. This role involves managing a fleet of over 50,000 vehicles and trailer assets, from procurement and accident repairs to fuel and supplier contracts.
Responsibilities
* Ensure compliance with legal and Royal Mail safety policies and achieve safety targets while delivering maintenance services.
* Optimise the efficiency of Fleet Workshops to meet industry standard performance levels and deploy all changes related to Fleet Workshops.
* Engage, communicate and coach the Fleet Workshop team to support and develop their performance.
* Achieve all agreed targets, including internal customer targets with SLAs, through effective performance management techniques.
* Deploy, manage and support ISO 9001 quality standards within Fleet Workshops and champion Continuous Improvement activities.
* Manage the local Industrial Relations interface, collaborating with union colleagues to deliver change.
* Oversee mobile sites and sub‑locations under the Workshop or Cluster control.
* Provide high‑degree flexibility for shift coverage and be willing to travel to other sites within the area of responsibility.
Qualifications
* Fully qualified at least advanced level (IMI Level 3) in Light or Heavy vehicle maintenance & repair or an equivalent qualification.
* Established team leader with relevant industry knowledge and experience of dispersed maintenance operations.
* Proven ability to build and manage relationships with stakeholders.
* Strong influence and delivery of results through people management.
* Experience working with Trade Union partners.
* Leadership, development and coaching skills to drive performance improvement.
