Grade 5 - £40,221 to £48,474. Consultation grade subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Permanent
Permanent, Full-time, 36.5 hours per week (hybrid working – typically 1-2 days a week in the Council House and be able to attend key meetings across Birmingham in person when required)

In the Children and Families Directorate at Birmingham City Council we are looking for an innovative and dedicated Senior Data Engineer. We’re embarking on a one-of-a-kind improvement journey that will affect families across Birmingham. We’re putting a data driven approach using digital tools at the heart of this improvement journey to make sure we can design and deliver services that allow children and young people in Birmingham to thrive.
We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced data professional to lead a team of data engineers ensure the directorate has trusted and timely data that will enable us to deliver positive outcomes for our Children and Young People.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll provide operational leadership and direction to the area of schools and education data. You will be responsible for ensuring we have the necessary systems and governance in place so that our data is accurate, assured and available to produce insightful and impactful analysis. You will manage a range of data projects to build products, pipelines and services using the best of modern data technologies and platforms to enable continuous insight and value to our staff and residents.
You’ll support the creation of business and user value from data by undertaking significant engineering projects which combine and enhance data from external data sources, back office and customer facing systems and utilise analytical techniques to develop data products derive insights and opportunities to improve performance and service delivery.
About You
An established professional with a degree level qualification in a relevant subject, you’ll have substantial project and data management experience. You’ll have proven team leadership and management experience leading multidisciplinary product teams to design and implement master data management strategies and solutions using a range of applications.
As a leader you’ll be experienced, driven, creative and a passionate advocate for children and young people. You’ll have experience of building and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues, stakeholders, and external organisations. You’ll set clear direction and objectives for your team, using your influencing skills to inspire, empower, and motivate staff. You’ll work to instil a culture that values compassion, high-performance, and inclusivity, shaping and developing the skills of your team so that every person can get the most from their role.
