 
        
        Working on both small and large projects and bid proposals, the Automation Engineer is responsible for the execution of automation systems, or parts thereof.
Responsibilities
 * Develop an automation solution that meets the requirements of the proposal or project.
 * Ensure design and execution outputs are delivered in line with the time schedule and quality requirements.
 * Provide technical support regarding automation design aspects throughout project and bid lifecycles.
 * Undertake other technical tasks as required (site surveys, feasibility studies, support to sales, etc.).
 * Provide aftermarket support for customers, including participation in 24/7 support up to 1 week per month (possible travel).
 * Undertake automation engineering design and execution tasks on projects or proposals, including safety & environment, ensuring solutions are safe, e‑stop, isolation & maintenance considerations, compliance with local legislation and regulations such as the EU Machinery Directive.
 * Participate in relevant reviews (Design Reviews, Risk Assessments), ensuring resultant actions are completed.
 * Generate automation solutions and define and implement their characteristics:
 o Automation architecture diagrams
 o Hardware and software selection and specification
 o Control philosophy
 o Software structure
 o Functional design descriptions (e.g. FDS, DDS)
 * Include design and configuration of HMI and SCADA applications; interface with MIS/MES, ERP systems, and other signal exchange interfaces.
 * Adhere to SPX Flow procedures and employ applicable tools and design standards during development.
 * Complete design calculations to support automation design and equipment selection.
 * Undertake software simulation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Customer Acceptance Testing (CAT).
 * Ensure tasks are completed in accordance with the project schedule, required quality, and within the allocated budget.
 * Own solution functionality, ensuring compliance with legislation, customer contractual requirements, SPX references, standards, and best practices.
 * Ensure design outputs are complete, consistent, and documented (FDS, DDS, SFC, etc.) and maintain S88‑based software structures.
 * Consider economic factors to deliver the overall project on budget.
 * Communicate & teamwork: Undertake technical discussions with customers and suppliers; attend relevant meetings (launch, progress, design reviews); support other disciplines to achieve deliverables; support installation and commissioning teams; assist with hand‑over of records to aftermarket team.
 * Document and maintain design information, user manuals, spares lists, and technical files in accordance with EU Machinery Directive.
 * Provide additional sales support and proposals tasks: attend pre‑contact customer meetings, undertake feasibility studies, review technical aspects of quotations.
 * Be proactive, innovative, and maintain high standards of personal integrity.
Qualifications & Skills
 * Degree-level qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline (e.g. Electrical).
 * Automation execution experience in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and/or other hygienic industries.
 * Understanding of control requirements for common hygienic processes (e.g. pasteurization, CIP).
 * Experience working within, and leading, a technically oriented team.
 * Good level of competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with Studio5000 (Rockwell), Siemens SimaticNET, TIA Portal, and Wonderware InTouch.
 * Experience with SAP beneficial.
 * Excellent communication skills; fluent English (spoken and written). Additional languages an advantage.
 * Good analytical/problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, initiative, and ability to work independently.
 * Experience with C++, C#, Visual Studio, SQL Server (advantages).
 * Ability to work on multiple tasks within a matrix environment, build relationships with colleagues across functions and geographically diverse sites.
 * Ethics and integrity, meeting high performance standards in a team.
 * Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs; occasional lifting of 10 lbs; good vision, including close focus.
