Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and forward thinking cardiology nurse (sister/charge nurse) OR Senior ODP to join an amazing team of dedicated staff within the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories (CCL).

The successful candidate will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to develop the team and contribute to cardiology care for our patients.

We are looking for a motivated, forward thinking and enthusiastic Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse/ Senior ODP, with a passion for Structural heart.

You will need to have excellent communication skills and the motivation to develop and progress their management skills. You will support and help develop junior staff within the department.

You will assist the senior Sister in the management of staff including appraisals, recruitment, back to works and supervision of learners.

You will work to provide a high standard of care at all times.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible in all issues relating to the nursing care and service provided by the Catheter Laboratory in his/her capacity as Sister/Charge Nurse/ Senior ODP.

They will be responsible for maintaining their own and that of others high standards of patient care, acting as role model and as an advocate for the patient within the Catheter Laboratory and Cardiac Investigations Unit (CIU).

To be an active member of the multidisciplinary team providing evidence based care for the critically ill cardiac patient and maintaining and excellent relationship with all team members.

The post holder will take responsibility for nursing/ ODP issues within the laboratory/CIU in the absence of the Catheter Laboratory Senior.

The post holder will take an active part in lab/unit activities including contributing to meetings, research, audit and role development. Supervision, mentorship and training of Staff Nurses, ODPs, Environmental support staff and Cardiology Assistants including appraisal.

Responsible for the assessment/planning and implementation of patient care within the labs. Participation in research, audit and maintenance/monitoring of standards Assist with cardiac procedures within Catheter Laboratory and CIU within scope of practice as per NMC code professional of conduct. Demonstrable specialist skills and knowledge in Structural and interventional cardiology, Devices and Electrophysiology.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

1. Level 6 healthcare qualification (or working towards) OR Level 6 specialist training
2. Degree/diploma in Nursing (adult) OR Degree/diploma in Operating Department Practitioner
3. Active Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registration OR Active Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration
4. Immediate Life Support (ILS)

Experience

5. Proven relevant experience in a cardiac catheter laboratory
6. Experience and evidence of supervision of others

knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria

7. Enhanced knowledge of the needs of cardiology patients undergoing procedures in the CCL.
8. Sound knowledge of the nurse/ODP role in all procedures performed in the CCL
9. Able to perform all the duties of a registered nurse/ODP in the CCL, including participation in the out of hours service
10. Effective organisation and communication skills
