The Chinese Room is a multi award-winning game development studio known for crafting rich, narrative-driven experiences such as Dear Esther, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, and Still Wakes the Deep and tthe upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade, Bloodlines 2. Based in Brighton, we pride ourselves on creativity, collaboration, and a strong studio culture.
We're seeking an experienced and highly organised Office Manager to join our team located in the heart of the laines to help support our operations, HR, and leadership functions. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining the heart of our studio.
Key Responsibilities:
* Full management of studio facilities, ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment
* Health & Safety compliance, including conducting and maintaining:
* Risk assessments
* DSE (Display Screen Equipment) assessments
* Expectant mothers assessments
* Event risk assessments
* Bookkeeping duties using Xero (experience essential)
* HR support, including onboarding and offboarding, policy updates, employee engagement, and general HR administration
* Personal Assistant duties for the Studio MD, including travel, hotel, and conference bookings
* Event planning and coordination for internal and external studio events
* Processing invoices, liaising with suppliers and external vendors
* General administrative duties to ensure smooth daily operations
* Keeping the studio neat, tidy, and well-stocked with supplies
Required Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience in a similar Office Manager, Operations
* Solid HR experience, HRIS systems, including knowledge of onboarding, offboarding, and policy management
* Excellent organisational and multitasking skills
* Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office
Nice to Have:
* Strong experience with Xero accounting software
* Experience in the games, tech, or creative industries
* Knowledge of UK employment law or H&S compliance best practices
* Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic studio environment
