Overview
Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist position in the Phoenix Neuro Rehab Team at ASPH Foundation Trust. Fixed term maternity cover. The Phoenix Neuro Rehab team provides specialist neurological assessment, management, rehabilitation and navigational support for neurological patients on the acute site. You will work with the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, SLT and Dietitian to support and clinically lead the team for patients with neurological diagnoses (excluding Stroke). The team was established in 2023 to focus on neurological patients such as TBI and GBS. You will work with staff across the stroke pathway and in units including Bradley unit and level 2b Rehabilitation unit. The Therapy Manager for Stroke and Neuro Services oversees the stroke/neuro therapy teams to enable continuity, consistency and joined-up working.

Main duties and responsibilities
The postholder will:
* Directly support acute and rehabilitation services at ASPH with complex neurological patients by providing expert clinical advice, assessment and education, and directing patient referrals to appropriate specialist services.
* Provide clinical expertise and support to the team with complex neurological patients.
* Support proactive case management of patients with complex neurological needs.
* Be a clinical expert resource to other in-patient teams as required.
* Line-manage the neurotherapy team consisting of qualified and non-qualified staff and support Physiotherapists in their line-management absence.
* Participate in and support the therapy service across 7 days including extended hours and bank holidays.
* Support the development of the neurotherapy pathway across the Trust.
* Work closely with the stroke rehab team at ASPH and support with complex patients, management duties and training.
* Communicate and develop links with neurorehabilitation services locally and regionally.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
* MSC level or equivalent experiential development
* Significant experience managing complex neurological patients in acute, rehab and community settings
* Experience in managing complex patients after acquired and traumatic brain injury and other neurological conditions (e.g., GBS) during acute/subacute rehab
* Experience in referring to specialist inpatient neurorehab units
* Ability to demonstrate expert clinical reasoning and conduct highly advanced assessments to formulate treatment and management plans
* Effective communication and MDT working; excellent organisational and delegation skills; resilience
Desirable
* Evidence of leadership training
Other requirements
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required. Applicants must have current UK professional registration with HCPC.
