JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Professor of Pastry will hold a faculty appointment and have academic and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Community College of Rhode Island. The newly developed Culinary Craftsmanship program is a two-year associate degree program with a one-year stackable certificate in Culinary Essentials. The Assistant Professor will be responsible for assisting with the overall operation and educational quality of the program.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Focus:

* Demonstrate commitment to providing academic support to all students
* Ensure student awareness of available resources that support learning and success within the institution
* Facilitate engagement and academic success by incorporating student advising, counseling, and remediation as needed
* Ensure orientation to the program’s requirements of the personnel who supervise or instruct students at clinical sites
* Provide administration, organization, and supervision of student experience


Instructional Skills:

* Facilitate learning in the classroom
* Contribute to a dynamic teaching/learning environment requiring adaptability, creativity, and teamwork
* Use innovative instructional strategies that support student success and recognize diverse learning styles
* Use technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community
* Apply strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues
* Participate in interprofessional educational activities
* Convey knowledge and skills effectively to students
* Continue professional development as an educator
* Teach appropriate courses within the program maintaining food safety and quality standards


Departmental Support:

* Assist in developing scheduling for the program including staffing of adjuncts as needed
* Participate in departmental and college-wide activities
* Demonstrate commitment to collaboration and collegiality
* Participate in the hiring process of additional faculty for the department
* Assure adherence to food safety and sanitation standards
* Manage and perform ordering for all necessary supplies for classrooms within department
* Assist in managing budgeting and other fiscal responsibilities
* Develop and implement curriculum to maintain industry and academic standards and expectations
* Other duties as required


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in related field
* Minimum of 3 years industry and/or Pastry Arts teaching experience
* Food Safety Manager Certification


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master's degree in related field
* Related industry certification
* Supervisory experience
* Teaching experience in culinary or pastry
* Bilingual
