REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
Regulations
Under the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5, teachers are expected to:
1. Exercise of general professional duties
2. Exercise of particular duties
1) General duties include:
* Carrying out professional duties as circumstances require under the reasonable direction of the principal or the employing board.
2) Particular duties involve:
* Performing specific duties as reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessing, reporting, and participating in school meetings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning
2. Preparing courses and lessons, teaching pupils, and assessing their development.
1. General
2. Promoting pupils' progress, providing advice, communicating with parents, and collaborating with external bodies.
1. Assessment/Reporting
2. Contributing to assessments, reports, and references for pupils.
1. Staff Development
2. Participating in staff development, reviewing teaching methods, and developing professionally.
1. Discipline/Health and Safety
2. Maintaining order, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in school meetings related to curriculum and administration.
1. Public Examinations
2. Preparing pupils for exams, assessing, recording, and supervising during exams.
1. Management Activities/Administration
2. Contributing to staff appointments, managing colleagues, and supporting curriculum and pastoral activities.
1. Work Schedule
2. Availability for 195 days/year, with specific hours and duties as specified, including supervision and attendance requirements.
1. Staff Cover
2. Supervising pupils during teacher absences, subject to school size and policies.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications, experience, and knowledge required, including teaching qualifications, registration with GTCNI, experience teaching Key Stage 3 and 4, digital media use, and understanding of curriculum and safeguarding policies.
Additional Criteria (Interview stage)
Knowledge of curriculum, safeguarding, SEND, assessment methods, and skills in classroom management, inclusion, collaboration, and alignment with school ethos.
Desirable Criteria
Additional experience with supporting diverse learners, monitoring progress, and specific classroom approaches.

Applicants recommended for appointment involving regulated activity will undergo an Enhanced Disclosure check, with costs borne by the applicant.
