Managing Quantity Surveyor (MQS) – Overview
The Managing Quantity Surveyor (MQS) is a senior leadership role within Winvic, marking a critical transition from single-project delivery to strategic commercial and team management across multiple projects. The MQS is accountable for the successful commercial performance and delivery of allocated projects through effective leadership and management of a dedicated site-based commercial team and close liaison with other disciplines such as Design and Operations. The MQS holds dual accountability for (1) Project Performance – ensuring the commercial and contractual health of a project, accurate robust reporting, and contractual protection, and (2) Team Management – managing, developing and monitoring team performance to deliver projects in line with Winvic core values.
Responsibilities
* Commercial & Financial Management – full commercial accountability for projects, managing all financial outcomes from inception to final account and reporting to the Surveying Director.
* Reporting – preparing, reviewing and presenting Project Forecasts, CVRs and strategic commentary on project performance, risks and opportunities to senior management.
* Risk & Opportunities – proactively managing project level commercial risks, implementing mitigation strategies and identifying value engineering opportunities.
* Internal Procedure Compliance – ensuring projects align with Winvic commercial processes, procedures and best surveying practice.
* Line Management – full line management responsibility for surveying teams, conducting PDRs, setting objectives and managing performance.
* Mentorship & Training – actively mentoring, coaching and developing junior staff, creating clear development plans within teams.
* Resource Management – communicating resource issues across projects, balancing project needs with staff development and maintaining morale.
* Recruitment – supporting the Surveying Director with recruitment and successful bedding-in of new commercial staff into teams.
* Support – acting as the primary point of support and escalation for teams, resolving issues and recognising strong performances.
* Contract Management & Procurement – commercial lead providing advice on contractual matters, dispute resolution and ensuring the commercial position and risks are communicated to the Surveying Director.
* Strategy – developing and implementing project procurement strategies, ensuring best value, compliance and maintaining robust supply chain relationships.
* Dispute Resolution – leading the resolution of high-level or complex commercial issues and contractual disputes escalated by the team.
* Guidance – guiding the team in all subcontract orders, negotiations and final account agreements.
* Client Interface – managing commercial relationships with key customers, representing the business professionally and engaging in challenging negotiations to protect business interests.
* Process Improvement – actively contributing with the Surveying Director over improvements in commercial processes, systems and best practices.
