Job Title: Communications and Social Media Officer Salary: £29,845 - £32,439 per annum Banding: 17-22 Location: Southend-on-Sea, Essex (hybrid office and remote working) Hours: 37 hours per week, permanent (with occasional evenings and weekends for events) Reporting to: Marketing and Communications Coordinator About the role The Social Media and Communications Officer will support the delivery of HARPs communications activity, with a focus on social media and digital content. The role is responsible for helping to communicate HARPs work in a clear, consistent and accessible way, reflecting the organisations values of dignity, respect and belonging. The postholder will create and deliver a range of content across HARPs social media channels, including video, photography, graphics and written content. This will involve sharing day-to-day activity, highlighting the support provided to people facing hom elessness, and helping to engage the wider community in HARPs work. The role includes responsibility for the day-to-day management of social media channels, supporting the growth of HARPs online presence and maintaining an engaged audience. The postholder will also contribute to fundraising campaigns and wider organisational priorities through planned and responsive communications activity. Working as part of the Communications and Fundraising Team, the Social Media and Communications Officer will support the consistent use of HARPs brand, including the creation of visual content and ensuring communications are aligned with organisational messaging and tone of voice. Main Responsibilities Content creation and planning Plan, create and publish engaging multi-format organic content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. Develop content that raises awareness, encourages support and promotes fundraising events Work with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator to deliver our annual social media plan and campaign calendar. Support design and visual content across the team, ensuring everything aligns with HARPs brand and tone of voice. Community engagement Manage day-to-day community engagement across platforms, responding to comments and messages in a timely, respectful and professional way. Help build and nurture a positive online community where supporters feel informed, inspired and connected. Share stories in a way that is inclusive, ethical and person-centred, always putting dignity first. Campaign delivery Plan and deliver social media activity around fundraising campaigns, events and awareness days. Work with colleagues to ensure social media supports wider fundraising and organisational objectives. Support collaborations with partners, corporate supporters and content creators where appropriate. Help ensure paid and organic social media activity is aligned and strategically coordinated. Monitoring and learning Use tools such as Meta Business Suite, TikTok Analytics and Google Analytics to monitor performance and audience growth. Identify insights and trends to refine content and improve engagement. Produce a monthly report tracking progress against our social media strategy and targets. Working together Collaborate closely with the frontline teams, fundraising, and retail to identify meaningful storytelling opportunities. Maintain consistent branding and messaging across platforms, adapting tone and format appropriately for each audience. Build authentic, values-led relationships with supporters, partners and contributors. Other responsibilities As part of the wider Communications and Fundraising Team, youll also support events and other activities when needed. Person Specification Essential Experience managing and growing social media platforms (personal or professional), with a strong understanding of what drives engagement across different audiences. Experience creating engaging multi-format digital content, including video, graphics and written posts. Strong content production skills, including filming, editing and creating accessible, captioned content. Experience using design and editing tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut or similar. Clear, confident copywriting skills with excellent attention to detail. Good understanding of social media trends, platform best practice and audience behaviour. Ability to plan and prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively. A genuine commitment to HARPs mission, values and person -centred approach. Desirable Experience working in a charity, social impact or purpose-led organisation. Understanding of paid social media advertising and how paid and organic activity can work together to drive results. Experience collaborating with partners, influencers or brand ambassadors to extend reach and engagement. Strong visual skills, including graphic design or photography, with an eye for brand consistency. An understanding of homelessness, housing inequality or community support services.
