About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has opened for an Estimator to join a well-established civil engineering and building contractor company based in Derbyshire. The key to their success has been their commitment to meeting the ever-changing demands expected of the industry through continuous improvement in their performance and their products.
You’ll be responsible for preparing and submitting tenders and budgets, including obtaining supporting quotations for subcontract work, materials and plant.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review and verify enquiry documentation for completeness.
* Assess specifications and contract conditions, escalating any onerous or unusual requirements to the line manager.
* Prepare accurate estimates and tender submissions in line with company procedures.
* Participate in tender review meetings and submit final tenders.
* Ensure all proposed construction methods comply with company Health & Safety policies, industry best practice, and current legislation.
* Include appropriate financial allowances within tenders to support safe construction practices.
* Conduct site visits to assess access, utilities, local conditions, and any factors influencing project cost.
* Work closely with the Contracts Department to determine suitable construction methods and enhance competitiveness.
* Prepare detailed quantities where required to support accurate cost estimation.
* Assist in reviewing order details following a successful tender.
* Prepare documentation and participate in handover meetings with the Contracts Department.
* Ensure all tenders comply with the Company Integrated Management System (IMS).
* Allow for adequate resources and financial provisions to ensure construction can be delivered in line with IMS standards.
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience in estimating, tender preparation, or pre‑construction within the construction or civil engineering sector.
* Strong understanding of construction methods, contract conditions, and industry‑standard procurement processes.
* Experience conducting site visits, assessing access, utilities, and environmental constraints that influence project cost.
* Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed cost estimates, including quantities, labour rates, material pricing, and subcontractor quotations.
* Background working with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal delivery teams to gather accurate technical and commercial information.
* Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation and safe construction practices, with the ability to incorporate these into tender allowances.
* Experience producing or working with resourced programmes, cost summaries, and tender documentation.
* Previous involvement in client liaison, maintaining professional relationships and representing the company positively.
* Experience working within a Quality Management System (IMS or similar) and following structured procedures.
