Commissioning engineer

Are you an experienced EC&I Commissioning Engineer? Are you willing to work at National Grid sites around the country? Do you have National Grid Gas experience?


The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Commissioning Engineer with strong electrical and instrumentation expertise to join our team in Warrington, Cheshire. This role will involve regular travel to National Grid and National Gas sites across the UK, so flexibility and a willingness to work nationwide are essential.


The Role

You will be hands-on with testing and commissioning LV switchgear, cabling, and electrical systems up to 1000V, ensuring everything runs safely and efficiently. From reading technical drawings to configuring protection devices, you will play a key role in seamless system integration and project delivery.


Your duties and responsibilities

* Travel to National Grid and National Gas sites across the UK to carry out commissioning activities
* Test and commission LV switchgear, MCCs, cabling, and electrical systems up to 1000V
* Read and interpret technical drawings to support installations and commissioning activities
* Configure and test protection devices for safe system integration
* Issue safety documents (training provided) and maintain clear records of progress
* Troubleshoot issues on-site, providing effective solutions to keep projects on track
* Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) processes
* Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and inspection plans
* Collaborate with other trades to ensure commissioning runs smoothly and efficiently
* Deliver training on new equipment where required


You will have the following experience &qualifications

* Proven E&I commissioning experience
* Background in Power, Energy, or Gas Transmission sectors
* Hands-on experience with LV Switchgear and MCCs
* Full UK Driving Licence
* Engineering apprenticeship or relevant technical training
* HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering
* Qualified in Inspection & Testing (2391-52)
* Current 18th Edition qualification (2382-22)
* CSCS/ECS card holder
* LV authorised with relevant experience
