Job Overview
An exciting substantive vacancy has arisen within University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust for a Band 7 Paediatric Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist for Non-Invasive Ventilation. This is for 22.5 hrs per week worked over 3 days working alongside a team of experienced respiratory nurses managing asthma, CF and home oxygen.
Core Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to work in collaboration with the Respiratory Consultants, the MDT and Community Services to support and co‑ordinate the management of patients with NIV needs. They will further develop service pathways, standard operating procedures and educational resources.
They will work closely with other specialists such as paediatricians, community nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, other Clinical Nurse Specialists and GPs to ensure we are always providing the best possible care.
The role will deliver care and support to children and young people predominantly across Heartlands site and will involve education and support to families, carers and the MDT. The candidate will see patients within outpatient and ward areas and within their own homes/ communities as required, provide a good standard of education and compile comprehensive care plans; supervise others, teach and assess competency.
They will work closely with the named Consultants and attend regular MDT meetings for both Paediatric and Adult services. Transition is a key period of change for our young people, which will be planned and supported by the nurse. Good communication and the ability to work well across different teams is essential.
The specialist nurse will support patients and families with the emotional aspects of their child's condition, helping them to understand the complexities and empowering them to deal with these effectively in their own environments.
Qualifications & Skills
We are looking for a highly motivated children's nurse who has experience with children and young people, training and educating parents/carers and has a good understanding and experience of working with children with long term respiratory conditions and NIV support requirements.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent skills in communication, organisation and time management and will be expected to participate in and deliver regular clinical supervision, Appraisal and NMC Revalidation.
