JOB TITLE: Engineering Lead
SALARY: £90,440 - £106,400
LOCATION: Bristol
HOURS: Full Time
WORKING PATTERN: We adopt a hybrid working style, involving at least two days per week or 40% of our time at our Bristol office.
About this opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Data Engineering team manager to join the Personalised Experiences and Communications Platform within product engineering multi-functional teams. As the head of data, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality data capabilities, demonstrating your engineering expertise while embracing cloud opportunities.
In this role, you'll lead data engineering teams to deliver high-quality data pipelines for personalized experiences for our twenty-six million customers and users. You'll collaborate with the head of engineering, product managers, architects, and other stakeholders to define and implement the software engineering squads’ roadmap, scope, and work. Additionally, you'll mentor and coach the data engineering squad, identify and resolve technical issues, deliver technical solutions for multiple entities, define data models and contracts, create automation tools, and promote a culture of high-quality, secure software delivery. You'll also help adopt best engineering practices and foster inclusivity and diversity.

What you’ll need
* Hands-on experience of delivering systems design, software development, testing, and operational stability.
* Proven experience and knowledge of automation and CI/CD.
* Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java.
* Experience with large-scale data sets, data pipelines, and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
* Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
* Practical experience with cloud-native solutions.
* Advanced knowledge of containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and experience with GCP, Azure, or AWS.
* Strong experience working with Kafka technologies.
* Fundamentals of computer science: data structures, algorithms, software design, design patterns, and core programming concepts.
* Good understanding of cloud storage, networking, and resource provisioning.
* Experience in hiring and recognizing emerging talent.
Additional useful experience
* Certifications in GCP (Cloud Architect, Cloud Developer, Data Engineer).
* Certification in Apache Kafka (CCDAK).
* Experience in data analysis.
* Proficiency across the data lifecycle.
