Job Description
Due to ongoing project growth, the position of Senior Cost Engineer is required on a landmark Energy project in Teesside. The role is based in Teesside and requires a minimum of 3 days a week on site.
Responsibilities
* Monitor, control and analyse project cost information, identify variances and report to the Project Manager along with possible alternatives.
* Prepare specific reports to facilitate challenge and analysis that meet the project’s specific needs.
* Collate, check and supply Costain staff costs to the commercial team for application for payment.
* Provide actual costs versus planned for CPI calculation.
* Deliver weekly and monthly cost and hours reporting, planned, actuals and forecasting.
* Ensure Estimates at Completion (EAC) are predicted using industry‑recognised approaches, including the latest resourced schedule and EVM productivity.
* Provide insights on variances and trends for management intervention.
* Coach and support junior members of the team.
* Ensure the cost management interface is in place with Finance and commercial, with regular communications.
* Support change management and incorporate changes into relevant Cost Management project artefacts.
* Support the management of contingency.
* Review labour bookings and cost allocation in line with agreed project cost allocation principles.
Qualifications
* Degree/HNC/HND ideally in quantity surveying or construction/engineering related discipline or relevant experience.
* Experience in a similar role on a complex project - ideally Energy.
* Expertise in Excel and exposure to bespoke cost management software systems.
* Experience in controlling, monitoring, analysing and reporting cost aspects for designated projects within a Portfolio.
* Proficient in Earned Value Management.
* Strong cost control and forecasting skills.
* Effective project reporting capabilities.
* Excellent communication within the team and with stakeholders.
* High level of numeracy and strong analytical skills.
* Breadth of experience across the whole project lifecycle (engineering, procurement, construction, installation/commissioning).
* Experience with Business Intelligence Software (e.g., Power BI) is preferred but not essential.
