Ethnographic Research Assistant in Active Travel
We’re looking for an Ethnographic Research Assistant in Active Travel. The position will be part-time: 29.6 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for 30 months.
Do you want a role where you’re recognised for what you do, given the opportunity to thrive and have the chance to be the best version of yourself? Interested in joining a great organisation with an employee offer and experience that rivals others? Are you looking for a new challenge?
The team
You will be part of the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) within the Public Health and Wellbeing Directorate at Gateshead Council. Our remit is to work closely with local communities, residents and partners to tackle the unfair and avoidable differences in health and poverty, disadvantage and inequalities experienced by communities in our borough.
About the role
Central Government has invested heavily in ‘active travel’ with the aim to get more people travelling under their own power by 2030. Gateshead’s HDRC has been awarded funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to understand how we can help support some of our marginalised communities to walk, wheel, and cycle more. Your role will be critical to the success of this research.
You will use your ethnographic research skills to work closely with our residents to understand, detail, and communicate the specific needs of some of our communities in relation to travel and transport. You will help to identify and develop opportunities to increase participation in walking, cycling, wheeling, and other self-powered modes of transport around our region.
