Job overview

Cardiac investigations is looking for band 6 Non-invasive Cardiac Physiologist to join the team.

Cardiac Investigations developed our services to include a Physiologist-led Pacing and High Voltage service with extensive home monitoring and large numbers of new implants of brady, tachy and CRT devices.

We take pride in our Physiologist led services including Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic’s, Complex Echocardiography, TILT table testing and Loop Recorder implants.

We have a comprehensive Heart Failure service as part of a truly multi-disciplinary team.

Provision of a 24/7 Primary PCI service to the South East Midlands area, this includes urgent CRM follow-up.

High volume complex PCI (including frequent retrogrades) with routine use of IVUS, OCT, laser and rotablation delivered through 3 cath labs.

We have all the facilities of a tertiary-equivalent Centre, including a modern digital echo lab performing the full range of complex scans, satellite echo and CRM clinics and the support of fourteen proactive Cardiologists.

The right candidate will have BSc or equivalent. In return, we will pay a Recruitment and Retention bonus in line with the UHN,


Main duties of the job

Main duties will involve working within the non-invasive side of Cardiac Investigations; the main duties will involve tape analysis, ILR analysis, TILT testing and ETT.

**This is a non-invasive role but does not include Echo**


Working for our organisation

Cardiac Investigations department has recently had a complete rebuild which now incorporates offices on the first floor. We have an impressive Echo suit which has MDT and training facilities.

Two of cath labs have also been fully refurbished with the third expected this year.

We actively encourage CPD, often have in-house training sessions and company supported courses.

Cardiac investigations has a total of 42 staff members who all have very good working relationships.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Cardiology at Kettering General Hospital has seen exponential growth over the last 5 years. We are therefore looking for an intuitive band 6 non-invasive Cardiac Physiologist to join our young and dynamic team. In return we offer recruitment and retention bonus in line with the UHN

We have newly refurbished Catheter Lab’s and a fully refurbished Cardiac Investigations department, all of which are less than 2 years old.

We have developed our services to include a Physiologist-led Pacing and High Voltage service with extensive home monitoring and large numbers of new implants of brady, tachy and CRT devices.

We take pride in our Physiologist led services including Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic’s, Complex Echocardiography, TILT table testing and Loop Recorder implants.

We offer community hospital clinics and home visits for many of our pacemaker and ICD patients.

We have a comprehensive Heart Failure service as part of a truly multi-disciplinary team, including Physiologist-led CRT optimisation and follow up clinics

Provision of a 24/7 Primary PCI service to the South East Midlands area, this includes urgent CRM follow-up.

High volume complex PCI (including frequent retrogrades) with routine use of IVUS, OCT, laser and rotablation delivered through 3 cath labs.

All of our Cardiac Physiologists are trained to the highest level and can work independently in their specialist area's

Our device service includes all aspects of CRM implants and Follow-ups; this includes HIS-Bundle Pacing, SICD’s and Micra.


We have all the facilities of a tertiary-equivalent Centre, including a modern digital echo lab performing the full range of complex scans, satellite echo clinics and the support of fourteen proactive Cardiologists.

The right candidate will have BSc or equivalent. In return, we will pay a Recruitment and Retention bonus in line with UHN.

CPD is actively encouraged and funded.

Kettering General Hospital is currently in the process of collaborative working with Northampton General Hospital so there will be an expectation for occasional cross-site working (in the future).


There is easy road access to much of the country with London 50mins away by rail. The beautiful residential towns of Stamford, Market Harborough and Uppingham are all within easy reach of the hospital, as is the City of Leicester which is known for its shopping, culture and leisure.

There has also been significant recent investment in the neighboring town of Corby within the past 2 years, with a new town center which hosts many popular shops and an ever expanding area of new bars and restaurants; however this has not affected the cost of living in the area.


Person specification


Training and experience

* BSc or equivalent in health care sciences
* Previous experience within non-invasive Cardiac Physiology
* Ongoing CPD
* Previous experience working within the NHS
* RCCP registration
* Proven experience in Rhythm recognition

If you need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, as a requirement of the role, you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check (£49.50) and this amount will be reclaimed from your first salary. From 1st February 2019 all new starters to the Trust are required to join the DBS update service as per Trust DBS Re-checking Policy which has an annual cost of £16. New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £49.50 for a new DBS check in 3 years time.

Please note that news starters with KGH are subject to a six month probationary period.
