Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist - Fracture Liaison Service (FLS)

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust for a band 6 Fracture Liaison Service CNS role.

The Fracture Liaison Service works with patients over the age of 50 who have sustained a fragility fracture to identify those with Osteoporosis and at high risk of further fractures, assessing their bone health, and placing these patients on a personalised treatment pathway.

The role involves working alongside multiple specialist teams including Rheumatology, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Orthogeriatric team, Radiology, and inpatient wards. The successful candidate would work closely with patients, primary care teams, and specialist services within Buckinghamshire to promote bone health and Osteoporosis knowledge.

We are looking for a colleague who enjoys working in a team and developing new skills.

A passion for preventative health care and supporting patients to remain fit and active is essential.

Experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics or Rheumatology would be strongly desirable.

Main duties of the job

* Providing specialist clinical services across the acute trust and BOB ICS for a defined patient group.
* Participating in local clinical audits and national collaborations for FLS.
* Providing education and training on bone health/Osteoporosis for colleagues, students, and patients.
* Collaborating with lead clinicians, care group managers, and directors to set and deliver the strategic vision of the service.
* Implementing policies and national guidance to support service development.
* Demonstrating excellent communication and team working skills.
* Ideally possessing good Orthopaedic and/or Rheumatology experience.

Person Specification


Education, Qualifications & Training

* BSc/first degree (health-related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
* Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge, supplemented by specialist training and CPD.
* Post-registration qualification in a relevant area.
* Registered nurse on the NMC register.


Experience

* Post-registration experience in the relevant specialty.
* Competence in managing patients within the specialty.
* Experience in teaching, assessing, and supervising in clinical settings.
* Supervision of junior staff.
* Experience in shift coordination.


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

* Specialist expertise supported by CPD.
* Knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
* Understanding of evidence-based practice.
* Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, providing advice to patients and families.
* In-depth knowledge of medications.
* Ability to administer prescribed medications, including transfusions.
* Experience in teaching and mentoring.
* Understanding of resource management.
* Excellent communication skills, including handling sensitive information and challenging situations.
* Ability to influence, negotiate, organize, and plan.
* Awareness of clinical governance, risk management, audit, and research practices.


Special Circumstances

* Ability to travel to other sites.
* Involvement in diabetes nursing research.
* Presentation skills evidence.
* Full, current driving license.
* Flexible working hours availability.
* Clear communication in English with patients, relatives, and multidisciplinary teams.
