Job Summary
This is a full-time post for a Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine. Sub-specialist skills and interests and areas for development such as Clinical Leadership, Medical Education and Research will be encouraged. You will work with the acute medicine team and colleagues at Worcestershire Royal Hospital as part of an establishment of 10.5 WTE Consultant Acute Physicians to provide high quality, compassionate and holistic treatment for patients referred or self-presented to our Trust in the following areas: The Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), the Emergency department and the Medical Short Stay Unit. Participation in GIM on call is optional but weekend cover (currently 1:7) is a requirement. 2 DCCs will be changed to specialist clinic activity if agreed with the successful candidate.
This description may be reviewed annually and aligned with the Clinical Director and Divisional Director to reflect current responsibilities and purchaser requirements.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide a clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners. The post-holder will work within multidisciplinary teams and on three sites, closer to patients’ homes, with potential service expansion to GP surgeries and health centres. Duties include supporting the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely care and patient flow, and providing consultation and advisory services to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care. The post-holder will attend multidisciplinary meetings and participate in on-call and weekend on-call duties where relevant, sharing duties with other Consultant colleagues as appropriate.

Job Description & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include providing a clinical service to patients and General Practitioners, attending multidisciplinary meetings, and delivering high quality clinical care within a three-site framework. The post may involve on-call duties (emergency and urgent services) and weekend on-call duties as required. The post-holder will review patient care in the hospital when clinically necessary and support outpatient services and multidisciplinary teams to meet departmental objectives.
Person Specification
Essential
* Ability to work in a team.

Desirable
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in General (Internal) Medicine or Acute Medicine.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Teaching & Research
* Essential teaching: ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines including undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems and awareness of current specialty developments.
* Desirable: publications in peer-reviewed journals and evidence of original research.
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise.
* MRCP or equivalent; success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
* Desirable: higher degree and entry on specialist register in General (Internal) Medicine or Acute; CCT expected within 6 months of interview date.
