Job Description

New Directions Education is working with a primary school on the Wirral seeking a Level 2 Teaching Assistant to support within an EYFS SEND base.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a specialist early years setting, supporting children with additional needs in a nurturing and structured environment. The role is due to start after half-term.

Location: Wirral
Start Date: After half-term
Hours: School hours
Contract: Ongoing

The Role:
You will support young children with a range of special educational needs, helping them access learning, develop communication skills, and build confidence through play-based and structured activities.

Key Responsibilities:
– Providing tailored support to children with SEND
– Supporting early learning and development through play
– Assisting with social, emotional and communication needs
– Working closely with teaching and specialist staff
– Creating a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment

We’re Looking For:
– Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification
– Experience working with children with SEND
– EYFS experience desirable
– Patient, caring and adaptable approach
– Strong communication and teamwork skills

Job Specification

Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following;

1. NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
2. NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
3. Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
4. CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
5. BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).

We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.

Jobs in additional learning needs (ALN)

A large number of our jobs are in ALN and we fill many vacancies in schools with candidates who have particular experience in working with children classified as having:

6. Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
7. Dyslexia
8. Dyspraxia
9. Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI)
10. Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
11. Profound and Moderate Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
12. Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
13. Severe Learning Difficulties
14. Physical Disabilities (PD).

As a teaching assistant you’ll be expected to:

15. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
16. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
17. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
18. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
19. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
