We're looking for a Portering & Waste Compliance Manager who will be responsible for the efficient and safe management of all portering services within a busy hospital environment, ensuring exceptional patient movement and waste management services. You will lead a large team, working collaboratively with clinical and operational stakeholders to support a 24/7 healthcare setting and deliver a high-quality, patient-focused service.
Role Responsibilities
1. Lead, recruit, train and develop a large portering team, fostering a high-performance culture focused on professionalism, wellbeing and patient-centred care
2. Manage staffing rotas across a 24/7 operation, ensuring adequate coverage, fairness, and effective application of HR policies and performance management processes
3. Oversee the central portering control room to ensure efficient allocation, dispatch and tracking of tasks across hospital departments
4. Ensure the safe, compliant and timely movement of patients, equipment, specimens, medical gases, waste and supplies in line with infection control, COSHH and health & safety standards
5. Build strong working relationships with clinical teams, estates, security and external partners, acting as the main point of contact for portering and waste-related services
6. Oversee waste management operations and contracts, driving compliance, resolving service issues and leading continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
7. Proven experience as a Portering Supervisor or Manager, or within a similar logistics-based role
8. Strong knowledge of waste management and compliance.
9. Experience of working within a hospital or healthcare environment
10. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
11. Strong people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop teams
