Associate Director – Data & AI Governance

Overview
A senior leadership role responsible for overseeing Data & AI Governance projects, advising clients, managing delivery teams, and supporting commercial growth. The position sits within a specialist governance capability team focused on data, AI, and technology transformation.
Purpose of the Role
The Associate Director leads a portfolio of governance-focused client engagements, ensuring quality delivery, financial performance, and strong stakeholder relationships. This role blends governance expertise with leadership, commercial accountability, and mentoring responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Client Delivery & Advisory
* Manage multiple Data & AI Governance engagements from scoping through delivery.
* Translate client challenges into structured programmes of work.
* Act as a subject matter expert on governance, operating models, and regulatory-aligned policies (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, EU AI regulations).
* Provide oversight, risk management, and reporting across all assigned engagements.
* Lead design and implementation of governance operating models (e.g., data offices, governance councils).
Commercial & Capability Leadership
* Own financial performance for a portfolio, including utilisation, margin, and revenue.
* Contribute to service design, capability planning, hiring, and forecasting.
* Support pre-sales, including workshops, proposals, and solution design.
* Develop reusable frameworks, accelerators, and intellectual property to strengthen governance offerings.
People Leadership & Development
* Mentor and coach consultants within the governance practice.
* Support hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning.
* Promote a collaborative, high-performance culture and lead knowledge-sharing efforts.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Act as a trusted governance advisor to senior leaders and executives.
* Represent the governance capability in internal and external forums.
* Support thought leadership such as presentations, events, or publications.
Key Requirements
* 10+ years of experience in data or information governance, with leadership of large programmes.
* 3–5 years in a leadership or practice-building role.
* Proven delivery of governance models, policies, and frameworks across organisations.
* Strong commercial acumen and experience managing financial performance.
* Governance or data management certifications (e.g., DAMA/CDMP) preferred.
* Experience developing governance artefacts or thought leadership is an advantage.
