We are seeking an experienced CSA Design Lead to oversee and coordinate all Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) design activities for a major new-build data centre project in Portugal. The successful candidate will act as the primary interface between the general contractor, design teams, subcontractors, client representatives, and internal project stakeholders, ensuring the successful delivery of a compliant, coordinated, and constructible design.
This is a senior leadership role requiring strong technical expertise in large-scale CSA design, deep understanding of data centre requirements (structural loading, white space layouts, underground services, precast/steel structures, fire strategy, drainage, etc.), and proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design consultants through to IFC stage and into construction.
Design Leadership & Coordination
* Lead the end-to-end CSA design process from concept through IFC and construction support.
* Manage all design consultants and ensure timely delivery of coordinated design packages.
* Drive integration of CSA design with MEP, architectural, commissioning, and client-specific requirements.
* Lead design review workshops (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC) and track all actions to closure.
* Ensure all designs comply with project brief, local Portuguese regulations, European codes, and data centre standards.
Technical & Delivery Oversight
* Oversee structural design solutions including steel and concrete frames, foundations, load paths, and equipment support.
* Lead civil and utilities design: earthworks, drainage, roads, site enabling, fencing, underground services.
* Ensure architectural elements (fabric, envelope, fire stopping, security, internal layouts) are fully coordinated.
* Evaluate constructability and support the delivery team with technical guidance during construction.
* Validate subcontractor design submissions and ensure alignment with project requirements.
Stakeholder Management
* Act as the primary design interface with the client, design partners, subcontractors, and internal GC teams.
* Manage technical queries (RFI process), change control, design risk registers, and overall design programme.
* Support procurement teams by producing scope packages, reviewing technical bids, and clarifying supplier proposals.
