Lead Embedded Software Engineer – Medical Imaging & Video Processing

We’re partnering with a well-established, boutique medical product development company that specialises in advanced imaging and video processing systems. Their technology interfaces with precision camera tracking hardware used in radiation therapy – making a real difference in the field of oncology.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As the Lead Embedded Software Engineer, you’ll take technical ownership of the embedded software platform, working closely with hardware teams and product designers to bring innovative imaging solutions to life. You’ll initially lead a small team (1 Senior Embedded Engineer), with scope for team growth. You’ll report directly to the Technical Director and play a strategic role as part of the senior leadership team.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role where your input will shape the direction of new and existing product development.
Tech Environment:
3. Microprocessors: ARM, NXP
4. OS: FreeRTOS
5. Language: C++
6. Interfaces & Protocols: HDMI, USB, DisplayPort
7. Other: High-speed data transfer, real-time video/image processing (there is scope to work with machine vision but this is not essential)
8. Experience in regulated industries (e.g., medical, automotive, aerospace) is beneficial, but medical experience is not required.
About You:
9. Strong C++ experience in an embedded environment
10. Proven experience with FreeRTOS or similar RTOS platforms
11. Comfortable working close to hardware (bare metal and RTOS)
12. Familiarity with multimedia interfaces (HDMI, USB, DisplayPort) and high-speed data
13. Previous team leadership experience or mentoring responsibilities
