Domestic Abuse Prevention Worker - Multi-Disciplinary Team

Fixed Term, Full Time

£31,931 to £36,423 per annum

Location: Chelmsford

Working Style: Community-based worker

Please note that this position is being offered as a Fixed Term Contract / Secondment with a planned duration of 24 months.

The Team

The Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) comprises of subject matter experts specialising in housing, domestic abuse, education, drug and alcohol support, youth work and mental health for adults and children.

MDT workers bring specialist knowledge and therapeutic insight. Their expertise is instrumental in re-engaging families, restoring hope, and fostering sustainable change. This team's work is not only impactful - it's transformative.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and passionate individual to join our team. Being led by the Team Manager, you will be working to create the conditions for sustainable change with families.

The MDT team is situated within frontline social work teams where the referrals come from. The interventions from MDT are delivered within the community or in the families' homes.

This is an exciting time for Children's Social Work in Essex, and we are seeking experienced, motivated and passionate individuals to join our dynamic Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).

Led by the Team Manager, you will help create the conditions for sustainable change, working alongside a diverse team of subject matter experts in housing, domestic abuse, education, drug and alcohol support, youth work and mental health.

Based within frontline Social Work teams, the MDT provides bespoke, specialist interventions in the community and in family homes, bringing therapeutic insight and expertise that re-engages families, restores hope and supports meaningful, lasting change. The Role

Children and Families service is recognised as a service in which practice can develop and prosper, with a culture of collaboration, integrity, and compassion; promoting development and wellbeing of children, young people and their families; protecting them from neglect and abuse. Working together with partners delivering a range of early help, family support and effective interventions which build resilience, remove barriers, and enable children and families to look forward to a brighter future.

To work alongside Assessment & Intervention and Family Support & Protection Teams. The welfare and safety of victims/survivors, children and young people, and vulnerable adults is paramount. The Domestic Abuse Prevention Worker will take timely and appropriate action to safeguard vulnerable adults and children in every aspect of their work.

Contributing to a multi-agency assessment and management of risk to victim/survivors and children affected by domestic abuse and pro-actively secure service user engagement and influence behaviour change.

Accountabilities

* Understand the multi-agency partnership structures and work within these settings.
* Establish ongoing multi-agency connections and relationships for the benefit of children and their family.
* Support the empowerment of service users and assist them in recognising the features and dynamics of domestic abuse present in their situation and support them effect change.
* Deliver behaviour change interventions using a range of skills to engage service users and reduce risk to victim/survivors and children.
* Maintain timely, accurate and confidential case management records and contribute to the work of the team.
* Participate in regular case management reviews within the Multi-Disciplinary Team and your line manager based on a review of risk and abuse which feeds back into action planning to further progress, signpost, or close cases, and provides feedback to your clients/agencies and informs future case management.
* Contribute to data and written reports with effective case data input and through the provision of case studies to illustrate the impact of the service for domestic abuse victims, survivors and children.
* Engage in supervision both individually and through group supervisions.

The Experience You Will Bring

Essential:

* Significant experience of direct work with perpetrators of domestic abuse within a criminal justice and/or wider supportive service(s).
* Experience and knowledge of effective ways of working/engaging with perpetrators of domestic abuse using a range of approaches.
* To develop and deliver effective interventions for perpetrators and facilitate discussions to achieve a positive outcome.
* Excellent conflict and crisis management skills with capacity to manage raw emotions including conflict, challenge and trauma.

Desirable:

* Have an understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and a strong track record of multi-agency/partnership working.
* Demonstrate theoretical and procedural knowledge of other services involved in the multi-agency response to domestic abuse such as the MARAC process at an operational level.
* The ability to work under pressure and manage a complex and demanding workload.
* Understand the purpose and use of domestic abuse risk assessment tools e.g., DASH and respond to emerging needs.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency. Driving licence and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.

Next Steps

Candidates shortlisted for interview will be invited to attend a face‑to‑face interview at one of our Essex County Council offices, with interviews expected to take place around the week commencing 5th February 2026.
If successful, the anticipated start date for this role will be from April 2026.
